There Are No Ordinary Moments: A Conversation with Dawna Matthews

Why do you practice yoga?
To feel balance, harmony, and the juiciness of life.

Why do you teach yoga?

As a yoga teacher, I seek to give my students the gift of peace and renewed personal power by cultivating gratitude and joy, thus unleashing yoga’s transformative healing power. I want to assist and support individuals on their path so they can taste the nectar of a juicy blissful life.

What style of yoga do you teach what is it all about?

Deep Yoga- is a a yogic system based upon Hatha and Ayurveda that goes deeply into the mind/body/soul connection delivering greater self-understanding, purification, inner-healing and expanded consciousness.

What makes your yoga classes unique and who should take them?

Yoga, Baby!

Mom & Baby yoga class is in full swing and I have to say I love seeing those little munchkin yogis!

Through a partnership with Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, Morgan teaches this class at Infuse Thursdays from noon-1:15pm. When asked what this class is like, she said, "Lots of laughter, yoga, naps, feeding and love." All that in a short 75 minutes!

Space is still available in our Women's Health, Prenatal, and Mom & Baby classes, and you can sign up through the hospital's web site: www.advocatehealth.com

Thank you to Heather and baby Amelia for sharing your yoga pics with us!

A Call to Teach Peace

Jennifer and I just experienced an amazing training with the beloved meditation teacher, Elesa Commerse, this weekend... and... wow!

She gave us so much to think about in terms of our responsibilities and journies as yoga teachers. And about what yoga truly means. It can be different for everyone, and yet there are certain shared experiences that bind us together, no matter how or why we practice.

Perfect timing too for this as we have all been putting our heads together at Infuse to come up with some spectacular offerings for you, our clients and students, that would be meaningful to you where you are in your lives and your exploration of yoga.

So here's what we've come up with...

A Note from Manuel

Hi Everyone,

Please come out to make your contribution to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation!

The reason that participate in the Walk to Cure Diabetes is because the disease runs in my family. This is my 2nd year walking but my family has been part of the team "Families for a Cure" for over 8 years. As our name suggests we are a team of many families that come together to support each other.

Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating, often deadly disease that affects millions of people--a large and growing percentage of them children.

Many people think type 1 diabetes can be controlled by insulin. While insulin does keep people with type 1 diabetes alive, it is NOT a cure. Aside from the daily challenges of living with type 1 diabetes, there are many severe, often fatal, complications caused by the disease.

That's the bad news... and yes, it's pretty bad.

Fresh Picks Make My Whole Week!

I just signed up for Irv & Shelly's Fresh Picks local, organic delivery. Wow! Need I say more?

My first produce box arrived and I am stunned at the exceptional quality. I mean look at the baby bok choy in this picture... it's beautiful!

How it works is: you sign up for an account (free), then you order online each week, or biweekly, or whenever you want really. Or, you can place a standing order for fruit and/or veggie selections that rotate each week.

Even better, you can add specific items to your order like pasta sauce and fresh pasta from local producers, organic eggs & dairy, and decadent baked goods from a nearby bakery.

And the best thing is... you don't have to wait around at home for them to deliver it!!!

Learning New Things In Old Favorites

So, here I am on vacation in Los Angeles, visitng friends and I wanted to take a yoga class.  And for some reason I didn't particularly want to go to a big fancy studio with one of LA's famous teachers. I wanted somewhere small, local, homey... I discovered Still Yoga in Silver Lake.

The Best Form of Stress Relief: A Conversation with Golie Roshandel Keovan

Why do you dance?
It is my creative outlet and the best form of stress relief for me next to a Thai massage of course!

Why do you teach belly dance?
I love being able to share my culture's dance and music with others.

Who should take belly dance classes and why?
Everyone should take belly dance class!  It is fun, a great workout, and a truly bonding experience!  Furthermore it is especially good for flexibility in the hips where many of us hold tension.  Not to mention awesome for our 1st and 2nd chakras!

What if I'm a terrible dancer/have no rhythm/have never taken a dance class in my life?
Then this class is perfect for you!  I break all the movements down so that there is no mystery.  In so doing, the previous students get a nice review as well.  My favorite students are beginners....I get to teach them so much and it's so nice to see their progress especially if they stick with it.  : )

What is the #1 thing you wish for your clients to take with them after a session with you
To feel proud and beautiful in the skin that they are in.

A Burst of Motivation!

Saw this sign in someone's window, walking in Lakeview to meet a friend for dinner & a play. Made my day... maybe it'll make yours too.

Earth Hour 3/28/09

What will you be doing this Saturday from 8:30-9:30pm? Enjoying a candlelit dinner, relaxing outside under the stars, sleeping...? Let us know... we'd love to hear  your ideas.

Feel Like a New Person: A conversation with Manuel Cruz, Thai Therapist

Why do you practice Thai Bodywork?
To help people in their everyday lives. Thai Bodywork just makes you feel better, gives you better range of motion, being stretched by someone else (passive stretching) helps you in a different way than yoga.
